Thanks for the tips....was just reading about the triumph sludge trap...sounds like a ton o fun to remove...lol.
Id best stick with a running donor...like a sportster or if I could find a 650 Yamaha and then mess around bobbing it.

Sporty would be a cool start, the older ones won't have the rubber mounted engines and will already be a pain before you get your hands on it lol. Try to stay '94 and up for the evo engine if you grab one.

the old iron head sporty's are fine and you can get them cheap. they dont have rubber mounted engines but it isnt like these bikes get ridden very far with hardtails on them anyways. they are a very stylish motor as well.

Only if you're too lazy to remove it. It can be done fairly easily on the XS.

These guys could probably source you a clean cover with no badging (Yamaha) http://www.xs650direct.com/ .

    Kind regards,

    Re: Bobbers

xs650direct/mikesxs don't have a replacement clutch cover, but there is more than enough meat on there to grind it out. It also is fairly easy to fill.

I left it on mine, I don't hide the fact that it's a yamaha.

why would you want to misslead someone? why would the pedigree of the engine make a difference? the point is the work that has been done.

    +1 on that...who cares...
I was gonna grind off the Yamaha off the engine cover to compliment the dirty-ratty look of the bike.. but then what the hell for??.. It is what it is..

Planning to list it up for sale in a week or two.. just need to put on a new chain & battery and voila:

    from this:

    to this:

not a trailer queen but a tough solid running bike...up for sale soon
