Thanks guys now I am going to have to pick up a project bike lol.

What makes a bobber a bobber?

How much power do the old triumphs make?

What kind of bike did they start with for that first bike?

And how bad are these things to ride?

short wheelbase, like a chopper very minimal on accessories buts its not stretched. personally i think bobbers look better with mini apes.

the 650 twins are good for 50hp, they arnt a go fast bike.

bumps on the road are going to be a nightmare and catching one in a corner might not be so entertaining haha.

So is there an unwritten rule that they have to be hardtails? I know I've seen some that aren't, but is that what you should shoot for for authenticity?
The blues ain't about theory, they's about therapy.

    Re: Bobbers

I don't know obviously as I was asking what the deal is before but I think I am going to try and find a old triumph for a project next winter. It will be a hard tail and I have seen them with up to a 4 inch stretch which I don't know how that stands from authentic side of things and lowered. Even if you could do one up being a soft tail I don't know why you would, it doesn't look like any of them will be very comfortable to ride.

    Re: Bobbers

we are building a bobber project right now for one of our members. it is coming along. i think we have been very creative in regards to doing it for next to nothing. i think that is a big part of it. choppers are a different breed. they are about alot of modification ect. a bobber by definition is a more simple and straight forward bike. removing parts and simplifying not complicating. lotsa fun! not at all about practicality. who would bring up practicality in regards to a motorcycle project? especially a bobber? this is about having fun!

Front end on the blue one is pretty sweet. The thing I hate about show bikes is how they always look so squeeky clean. My bike looks dirty after a wash, she's definitely not a show bike

    Re: Bobbers

I would take on a bobber project myself too, I just need to learn to weld.

If I can weld pipe, I can make almost anything.

I have 2 on the go at the moment...
    99% done xs650 bobber:

    and a 70 Triumph T120:
    http://dotheton.com/index.php?topic=11179.0

Incidently, the Girder front end on this bike is coming off and being replaced with a shorter Springer front-end custom modified for this bike by some of the DoTheTon guys...

A totally different ride than a cafe racer or a sport bike.. But certainly not a comfy crusier by any means...
