    Graphic Helments vs Solid Colour

Is it true, that graphic helmets are suppose to be safer since they create more attention to the rider?

Or is this just a marketing trick to justify selling graphic helmets at a higher price.

I'm sure it depends on the colour...an all black graphic helmet won't be as visible as a florescent orange solid colour helmet.

Some of the graphic helmets are full of bright vibrant colours that no doubt make you more visible.

I don't think there is any marketing trick...graphic helmets would be more expensive because of the graphics. Graphic artists need to get paid too.

    Cheers

    Hey Paul,

Would you think this helment would be safer than just a plain black one?

i'm thinking of buying the plain black, for a green ninja 250. But also like the dragon - grey design. But don't know...

You gotta look at it from a driver's perspective. That helmet, being primarily black may get a little more attention during the day time, with the extra colours and what not on it....but at night it might as well be solid black. And during the night is when you really want to be visible. That's when, say, a high viz helmet or an all white/orange/yellow helmet would beat out most others.

You can buy reflective tape or dots but most of the times people didn't see me were daytime and they were turning so the reflectors would be of little benefit.

The brighter your helmet is, the more likely people are to see you. Nothing is perfect, but every little bit helps. Headlight modulators make you much more noticeable during the day.

I think you're better off with a high visibility vest or jacket.

Adding reflective elements to your helmet is a good idea too. I usually shop in the bicycle section on the canadian tire and stick a reflective canadian flag here and there on my helmet.
