What documents or things to look for when buying a used bike?

    Hi guys,

I recently completed my M2 and now looking to buy a used Suzuki GS500F. I don't know exactly what to look for in the bike to make sure it is good. And what are the documents I should ask the owner to provide to make sure that the bike is good, someone mentioned service record?

All you help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Anshul

    -ownership
-UVIP, though you can aquire it yourself if you REALLY want the bike
    thats about it really

i don't keep my service records for any of the bikes i've ever owned
to look for: take it to a mechanic if you need to ask

    Thanks Fingolfin!
Another silly question, how does the ownership of the bike get transferred. I guess I pay the seller cash (do i get him to sign any transfer document) and take the bike from him, do I just go to the ministry with the UVIP and tell them that I want to register the bike?

    Thanks,
    Anshul

Get the seller to sign over the ownership and a bill of sale (which BoS is actually included in the UVIP package).

With those 2 things you can register the bike to your name. To put it on the road you will need insurance and safety though.

    2001 SV650S
    1997 CBR900RR sold
    2005 ZZR-250 sold

    what DemonPig said..

if you want the bike to be "fit" for the road, you will need to get the bike certified. you can still transfer the bike to your name, but it will be labelled "unfit" until you have it certified.

you can not plate the bike as unfit.

I would recomend checking out the MTO's website.
