    Northern Ride Maps

I'm building some Northern Ride maps using Garmin Mapsource. I will post them in gpx format.

I figure I'd share them here. I am using the big ontario map as my basis. Also, I haven't been on all of these roads, so if you are aware of any problems on my routes, feel free to
    comment.

These routes will shoot up 400 and/or 11 and the real fun begins after Orillia.

The first map has the following highlights (in sequential order):
    Southwood Rd. (going north)
    Bala Rd.
    McDougall Rd.
    Hurdville Rd.
    Hwy 520
    Hwy 518
    Rd 632.
    Southwood Rd (going south)

    Re: Northern Ride Maps

At the end of last season, rd 632 was gravel for about the northern 6km of it. It may have been resurfaced.

Your total route is 680km. I don't know how long you like to ride for, or your riding style, but I would think about adding in another 300km of twisties from the roads in between, just to make the run a full day ride.

A few roads to add in might be:
Ravenscliffe Rd (Hwy 2) heading south from Sprucedale off the 518. That road is also a blast with very little traffic. That could lead you right to Aspdin Rd (also called #3) which can lead you back to Rousseau and is another fun run.

Mortimer's Point Rd which is close to Bala is another small side road to add.

I like that your run has two trips on Southwood. Let's hope the sand is gone by the time you make the trip. Swords rd is lots of fun as the 518.

    Re: Northern Ride Maps

    Thanks for the advice.

I'm putting a number of northern routes together. So I'll take your advice for the next routes I'm planning.

I wish I could add more KMs on a ride, but about 600 seems to be my max for a day.

I'll post each route I create here.

    Thanks again.

Just a heads up on the Muskokas this year. G8 SUMMIT = LOTS OF COPS.
    632 still crappy
Southwood 13 is still a sandbox
    McDougall Rd lots of heaving

Try Muskoka Beach Rd. south instead os southwood 13, just take it easy thru there it could get hairy thru some if the twisties, and i havn`t been on it yet this year.

Shane, we gotta get up there one of these weekends and do a quick road recon run.

Muskoka Beach Road is all torn up from Winewood to Jones Road, The construction is almost done as they have the machine that makes the curbs there and the construction should be done in two weeks or so.

Sure, no problem. I'll keep you posted when I decide to go. I'm looking at a weekend soon (in the next few weeks or so).

With all these suggestions, and other road problems noted, I will have to make some tweaks to the route.

Thx for reminder about the G8 thing - it's June 25/26... I would think that any spirited Muskoka riding would have to be July onwards then. For spirited riding, check out the roads near Calabogie until then, which are just as fun, but a bit further away.

Boooya: I'm still too busy to do any riding for a few months, but the schedule starts to open up in the middle of the summer to the autumn. But I do look forward to showing you an awesome few roads near Wilberforce and Barry's Bay.

Chaos: On one of your other planned routes in the area, also check out the Huntsville Backroads, which are the county roads #2,9,10,46 and also the 117 that leads towards Dorset. They are also a bunch of roads that are infrequently used and good fun.

    Re: Northern Ride Maps

I will repost the map later today.

Edit: I will repost an editted map. Since 632 is torn up, I am going to omit it and figure something out.

    Re: Northern Ride Maps

Keep an eye on the Rides sub-forum. I usually host a few rides up thru the Muskokas. I know them well and can show you some hidden gems, just gonna wait till we get some good rain before I take a group up.
Shane also knows his way around up there if you want to get more info on roads.
But like mentioned already, there is high police presence up there rite now and still lots of sand on the roads. Even in the summer when the sand has washed away you still need to watch out for gravel kicked onto the roads by trucks towing trailers and boats.

    Re: Northern Ride Maps

Sorry for the delay. Here is the revised route. I removed rd. 632 and completed the circuit via a bit of a detour on road 141.

    Enjoy
