if anyone is interested, you can buy the lock(SS65CS) in aurora for about 73 dollars(2 years ago). he is the canadian distributer and i got one from him. that should save some dollars for you guys.

that's the problem i had. ordered too short a chain. it wasn't worth returning it (shipping $$$) so i sold it at a loss locally. (you're welcome, apstndp)Originally Posted by insert

i wonder if there are any industrial suppliers with massive chains. the thickest ones i found were a half inch thick (12-13mm) from bolts plus. they wanted you to buy the whole box cuz they couldn't cut it. anyone else find any industrial suppliers with ridiculously large chains.
the almax chains are 16mm and 19mm thick.
48" long bolt croppers will fit on 13mm thick chains...and cut them.

i said bolts plus couldn't cut them. i didn't ask if 48" long bolt cutter would cut em. i am aware almax III series chains are 16mm and then next ones up are 19mm. And i'm sure it would be cheaper to walk around with a battery grinder than spend 300-500 or more on a pair of 48 inch bolt cutters. try explaining to the cops why you need 48 inch bolt cutters unless you work in construction laying concrete floors or whatever you would need em for.
plus the grinder will get through anything anyway so im sure that would be a investment the thief would make after he start running in to a lot of big chains.

And yeah if the Canadian dealer can get us a group discount we can go with him and buy chains in uk. Whatever works out cheaper.

And yes they do group buys as i spoke to them. Discount is based on the quantity. So the more the better.

I'm interested if the price is right... I use my son's van to 'lock-in' my bike, but I'd feel better about it if it were locked with the chain...

why didn't almax test the New York Legend Chain 1590. its 15mm thick. just under almax 3 series.
I got the info from Jack at Squire Canada. He stocks the SS65CS lock and if we buy several (he didn't set a minimum), they are $80.54 + GST each.
He also stocks the 1200mm chain from Squire. The chain/lock combo SS65CS/MC4 is available from him for $185.50 + GST.
Squire has an 1800mm chain which Jack does not stock but could order. If in stock at Squire UK, it will take 6 weeks; if not then longer. Don't know the exact price of the 1800mm yet.

I'll wait to hear how much the Almax chain is, then decide which chain I"ll buy. I'm in for a lock from Squire Canada for sure. I told Jack I'd see how many are in for the lock and speak to him next week. He should have the price of the 1800mm by then in case anyone is interested.
I'm in for a lock group buy, let us know how much for the chain.
