    Movin' on up... '02 V Star 1100

Just picked it up this week-end, '02 V Star 1100 Custom in absoluetly mint condition... only 14k on it. All I need is some saddlebags and then it'll be set!

For saddle bags I suggest hard bags, they're great especially for keeping your stuff dry. Mine also lock. I got a set of cruiseliner hard bags from national cycle. The only thing you'll have to do is replace the stock turn signals with lower profile ones. They give you a relocation bar but its a stupid setup. I would also suggest a Kuryackyn hypercharger and jet kit. I put one on mine what a difference.

Beauty. I love the look of the custom v-stars. I had a 99 650 before my current bike. Hopefully yours will have a little more juice, lol.

    Great looking bike!

Get ready for the "bad in the day" stories. I also had one. Loved it. Lots of power, dependable. If you're a 6 footer there is a 4" extension very reasonably priced for you foot controls to move them forward. You can install them in an hour easily.

As for bags i used "Ghost Brackets". Don't know if they were worth the money but the cleaning sure was easier.

    Enjoy !!

    Very nice
Mind me asking what you paid for it? Where'd you buy?

I was considering a V star exactly like that one. I ended up getting an 01 Honda Sabre 1100 cc. Black also. 9500 km was a big plus. I paid 5700

Great buy! I had an '02 Classic and sold it in September ' 08 with 86,000 kms - mostly highway stateside.

IMPORTANT - Bike is bullet proof, but read up on the Starter. They tried to strengthen the bolts in '03... but the problem is the design of the starter clutch - read up and save yourself a grand or so.

There is a way of starting and shutting down the bike to avoid the dreaded CLUNK which is associated with the kickback that twists the bolts.

    Starting
    1. start with full choke - do not throttle
    2. If warm start with no throttle
    3. Do not release the starter until you hear the engine actually running - a second or two
    When shutting down
    1. Allow to idle a second or two
    2. Key off - or - kill switch
    3. Stand down
    One web site: http://www.sloneservices.com/SilverB...100-FAQ-08.htm

You want to avoid the CLUNK. There is no fix. A new starter doesn't fix the cause of the problem. I had mine for 5 or 6 years and my bolts were bent - but when I learned how to start and stop it, everything was ok. Great bike - handles like a sporty!

BTW - I have a XENA alarmed disk lock if you are interested. Think $50.00

ALSO You may want to consider an oil relocation kit so you don't have to take your pipes off everytime you change oil and filter. There are different types, but I got mine at http://www.motorcycleenhancements.com/

Congrats. I've got an 05 custom -- love it; though I could use more power, even with pipes, pod kit and rejetting.

But still a great bike. Have fun; we'll see you out there.
