Trailer or ride down?
I go with a group and did it on the cheap last year. I think all in it was around $550 for a week's trip.
If you are riding down then something like $50 a day for gas riding down. You can do it in a day if you push but it's more fun to take three days. From where you are head down I81 to the Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Parkway. Last year, if you asked you could get decent motel rooms at around $60 a night (Comfort Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and a few others) and these generally include a fairly decent breakfast as well. (there are opther routes just as much fun as the Skyline/Blue Ridge but if you haven't done the Skyline Blue Ridge comboo you should at least once.)
Once down there it depends on where you stay and there are a lot of choices. I have only stayed at the Ironhorse Motorcycle Inn as that is where the reunions I have gone to were hosted. Camping was about $15 a night, and rooms could be had for about $70 a night. If you don't mind sharing they have some bunkhouses for as little as $25 a night.
Food would depend on your tastes but in general food is cheaper than in Canada.
Booze is a lot cheaper, but the area around the Dragon is a dry county so you need to buy booze on your way in. Beer etc is sold in gas statios and supermarkets so it's easy to find. Bryson City is where we normally get our booze.

Why Cars don't see bikes (SMIDSY)
SMIDSY detailed report
If your into camping, there are a few m/c friendy camp grounds within a hour ride of deals gap. One is in Suches Georgia and one just up hwy 60 at Skeenha Gap road.
There is alot of very good riding in the area, you have Blood mountain, Richard Russel skyway and Wolf Pen gap to name a few.
Way less traffic and police then the Dragon
not much at all. As Kelly said it was around $5-600 bucks. Dick all for what it is.
Ya 500-700 is money well spent. That's a week of riding some of the best roads , eating and drinking well too!!!!!
I need to get back down there!!! Come on spring!!!!!!
I used to camp. 'Course, I used to do a lot of stuff my body rejects now!
Motels are $45.00 to $70.00 a night - All one level motels, bike parked just outside room - Red Roofs, Knights Inns, Mom and Pops etc. No Big Chains - too expensive and no increased value, less bike security.
Meals and beer - $30.00 a day - No meal more than $10.00 and you eat well
$500 is a good estimiate 6 or 7 days - or if riding with a buddy share motel cost and forget "camping."
Do it! Have lots of fun and don't miss route 311 on the way south if you can link up with it.
Love that road.

who cares how much it costs.
do what you want, and when it time to pay the bill, hold a fundraiser.
dammit yeti you beat me too it
I'm riding all the way down Eric. Basically three days down, whatever I can afford there, then three or two back. Lots and lots of blue ridge parkway, Great Smokey Mountains and as much BBQ as I can stomach.
Nobody is going to want to follow a KLR heading down there though. You'd be ****** at me in no time.

Last year I rode back solo in 14 hours, seemed like a good idea at the time....... the next day proved different. 2 days would be good.
