Ok, that is just too freakin cool.
I wonder what one of those machines goes for, More than in my piggy bank I'm sure.

You can pick up an older 5 axis mill for under $40,000.....However if you want legit software and training your looking at another $10,000+....And like everything in this world there are many different level of quality/price...Japanese, China, North America, etc etc all have their own quality/price class

My CNC's are only 3 axis, but they are very large because I cut sheet material...I like Japanese made machinery, so they are both top of the line brand names....My latest one is almost 2 years old now, paid around $250,000 US and my software package was just under $20,000 with training... It has a windows interface, so I get GTAM right on the machine...LOL

    that was great!

And just another reason why I prefer my motorbikes as little 'handmade' as possible.

no wonder you have the post count you do. Rocking GTAM right off the mill. Awesome.

I wonder how long did it actually take.
To model everything is one step, but to get CNC to cut it.... I wonder how long did it take to program that. This is just insane, 5 axis, and the table that moves in XYZ, its amazing.

That's less than I thought actually.
A former vendor had a couple of the huge HAAS units, I think they were both over $1 million each.

Hit up some of the auction companies like Corporate Assets and you can pick up used multi axis machines cheap. It'll cost you more in rigging and transporting that the cost of the machine.

Still cool but that'd be an expensive block of aluminum just to play with.

High speed (50,000+ RPM) + small ball nose + light cuts on Al and you don't need coolant. In some of the high end HS machines the spindles run on air (bearingless). The chip removal at those speeds is mind boggling.

Its not a real helmet...just an excercise in how far 5 axis machining has come.

Its likely turned off for the video at certain times where the machining is light, you can see that machine has a ton of coolant jets on its head...And if they were spraying you wouldnt be able to see much....

They would have to be HUGE, and most likely combination mill/lathes or 5 axis, to cost that much! HAAS machines are pretty cheap and decent size mill should only cost about $60,000
