Nice bike, but a bit much $$$$.

And it doesn't even brew coffee or have an ashtray!?

If i wanted that much stuff on a bike i would probably buy a Goldwing, it's Suuuper Deeeluxe.

they still hold there value, but when they were bought 5 or 6 years ago for an outrageous amount and you can buy the same bike new for 10 grand less, i think that is the value drop that most people see.

Harley's aren't my cup of tea (well, I look the look of a plain Dyna but wont eve get one.) There is no doubt Harley has the highest number of Posers out there, but I bet they also have the highest number of high mileage bikes as well. You just don't see them hanging around all that much as they are out on the roads being ridden.

From the other side of this, two of the guys I work with have 40k+ harleys, they ride with a bunch of other guys that have 25-60k+ harleys and they do ride. Lots of miles.
For most of these guys a 40k+ bike is a toy, they just have a bigger toy budget.

It's a surprisingly good looking bike. But so it should be too..

I like the angle on the bars, suits my wrists better than the last half dozen or more bikes I've had (mostly full on sport or swaying towards sport) cuz let's face it, our hands comfortably lie palm inward if you simply relax them at your side, or even if you stand and raise them in fr of you, they still remain palm inward. It takes a new (and unrelaxed) set of muscles to force them to go palm down.

I also prefer that stubby windshield, that, for the majority of riders will be just the right height for you to peek over it rather than through it like all Gold Wing riders are still forced to do.

A 2001 and newer Gold Wing is an incredible Touring/Sport touring bike though. But they are truly behind the times until they put a power windshield on it, which will allow a rider to not be forced to look through it. Either that or go glass with a wiper and washers. Or do both. THAT is what Honda should do to ensure their edge for that type of bike. Think about it Honda. Not only offer the disappearing WS, but offer it in glass with wiper/washers. You want functional luxury that walks away from the competition in a way that complements that wonder motor and drivetrain? Then do that. And kick me a few bucks for idea..

    Sweet looking machine

There's enough HD maniacs out there that they will sell these easy.

I don't see a lot of poor people climbing Mount Everest, Hopping on Balloons and travelling around the world, heading up to the Space Station, trekking to the North or South Pole, etc.

i am only 6 feet tall and with the mindshield adjusted correctly i can easily look over it with no issues on the gl1800. the windshiled is manually adjustable on the gl1800's already. a power option like the st1300 would probably be good but the bike already has alot of electronic googahs.

    LMAO
My wife has a mindsheild of her own! I just wave,, see yah later!

when i sit on the FLHRi with a large police style windsheild , i just peak over the top. I am 188cm

That CVO has a host of reason why you buy.... money isn't a big deal,, it is nice to have something others don't,, it does ride nice,, sounds nice,, it is a lifestyle choice..
not mine... I had a hard time justifying buying a HD to begin with.. it was twice the price of a Honda when placed for sale.. but I think there are very few serious buyers in the USED marked,, so i think the prices have dropped significantly on HD

Ahhh, the difference between men and boys is the price of their toys! But you have to get your facts right and compare apples to apples. There is a $2000 difference between the new Goldwing and this CVO Ultra - however you hold a Tupperware party with the Honda and watch it melt in a fire since most of it is plastic.......not to mention the horsepower and torque difference. Yes, both of there are over the majority riders budget - but they don't make them for the masses or majority.

Some of us can and do ride them as well as most of you (if not better then most) ride your sport bikes and they don't just ride them around town. Ever go to Sturgis where were are over 1 million bikes, how about Daytona bike wee or Laconia, or Lake George. The Crsuisers far out number the sport bikes and the Harleys out number everything else. Grant it in the past they didn't make a reliable bike - but now they have Brembo brakes, 6 speeds, etc.......and unreal performance. Resale value is good in normal economic times compared to the Metric bikes and yes - used to be able to get 2 for 1 on the prices compared to the Jap bikes - not anymore.

They are not for everyone, but unless you actually rode one you cannot compare. Only problem is that you have to keep replacing the floor boards :>).....

Besides, if they weren't one of the best bikes out there then why would all the police forces North American wide use them? As they say different strokes for different folks, but they do offer value to those that like them...........or own them or have both.

Anyone wanting a CVO - check out ebay as you can get some great bikes are unreal prices in the USA

Nice looking bike for someone that's into touring and cruisers, price is INSANE though, I agree.

Re: So Harley Finally Lost Their Minds

You really drank the Kool-Aid, haven't you?

The best bike in the world is the one you ride, but as soon as Harley riders start yapping about any kind of performance (particularly "unreal" performance) it becomes clear where things stand.

No real tourer seriously disrespects the 'Wing. It's earned it's place, and it's an amazing bike.

Secondly, have a look again at the specs on the CVO and the GL1800 and tell me again about the performance difference

The fact that Harley doesn't publish HP numbers tells me everything I need to know about Harley performance, but here's what a little googling turned up

    GL1800
    HP: 118
    Torque: 125
Claimed Dry Weight: 799 lbs (ABS)

    CVO Ultra
HP: Unpublished (googling shows owner dyno tests of about 97 HP)
    Torque: 115
Claimed Dry Weight: 887 lbs (ABS)

    So where's that performance again?
