Late to the table but hey ... love the bike, lots 'o cash. I ride with friends on Ultras. They & I log many many miles. I keep hearing about harley posers. That's getting tired. I see it on both sides and none at all.
I do have 1 observation though regarding riding in "the club". A couple times a year we head out on a 6 & 10 day-er. It's nice to have a destination with stops along the way. Sometimes it Maine with Laconia or Lake George on the way. Other years it's been sturgis on our way to Cody & Bear Tooth Pass. My point to all of this is it wouldn't be possible to see that many bikes, entertainment & a general participatory outing were it not for Harley & the wonderful people who ride them. Ever been to Dover. How does it compare say to the sportbike equivalent of say Parry Sound (i think you get the point, if not then i guess this isn't for you).
Anyway a harley costs more and will continue to because of the "Belonging to the Club" factor. You want to be in, it's definitely better to ride one.
