Ouch, I can do 1000 km on that and have something left over!

I'm not a fan of wrong wheel drive either, but for what I use the car for, it gets the job done. The suspension and steering on the Mk5 VW's is quite good. The stronger rear antiroll bar that I put on took out a lot of the understeer, it made a huge difference.

If BMW brought in a 4 cylinder diesel 3-series with manual transmission (it exists in Europe) I'd be seriously tempted. The diesel 3-series that they have now is a torque monster, but I don't need it and it's autotragic only, so no thanks.

Ouch, my mate just very recently paid 27k OTD for a fully loaded 2009 DSG lease termination that was driven for one year and 15k km.

Well my car isn't an STI...but I fill up at about 3/4's empty or so. That's about 42-45L of gas to fill up with. I estimate the tank to be at least 60L. Anyway...42-45L of fuel usually gets me 320km's....or less It's no honda civic...that's for damn sure.

I was talking to a dood with one of the newer STI's, though, and he said that some of the newer cars come with a knob where you can alter the AWD settings to help with fuel economy. My 2002 has no such knob.

Yeah its the doohickie that controlls the throttle response I think, the thingamabober has an intelligent mode (fuel effiecent) Sport mode (fun) and Sport (sharp) for fill every 10 yards or so mode.

It's more or less stock. I've flashed the CPU to Stage 1 using the COBB access port, and I have a cat-less up-pipe. But that's pretty much it. In most cases, those "mods" aren't even worth mentioning....and they're actually supposed to increase gas mileage.

I had a 1995 Impala SS. The b-body GM's are great cars, look on ebay for kits to put a 6 speed manual in it...that would be icing on the cake.
