With all of the non-HD stuff available for the Sporty, if you're buying a OEM gas tank, money is the least of your problems.

Long time ago I was looking for larger capacity bolt on tank that will accept the fuel pump for the 2006+ Sporty. I came up with nothing.
Could you direct me? And keep it $200 ish. Thanks.

You both suck at Google for starters.....
    http://search.cartserver.com/search/...s=rp2161&go=GO!
PS> Only retarded rich people buy parts at HD, F-U Dealey Canada!

What's all this yipyap about gas?
    Is 230kms not far enough?
If you don't stop for Gas, Grass or *** by then, slow down and smell the coffee!

Let's just leave the Sportster facts to the people that own them, and Parts Distributors > A.K.A, ME.

Ya ok You see, us in the "adventure" riding subculture place a great deal of stock into large capacity fuel tanks whether we need it or not. We're funny that way, not unlike other bike subcultures who blow the load all over sissy bars, extended forks or shiny parts.

The tank you linked wouldn't cut it among my people. 5 gal. Fat bobs would be a start

Good find AGAVE, 230km is plenty but the measly 100km that I'll get out of a 8L tank might not.

    What 8l tank?
A stock sportster goes 230kms on a regular tank, only bikes from 1980's had a smaller 2.2 gallon.
Mine is 4.3 gallons, if my motor was stock, i bet it would do 300+kms per tank.

    Well i'll be a flying *** monkey, it does!! 7.95L !!! WTF!
I haven't seen this new bike yet up close, but apparently they put the old 2 GAL peanut tank back on it?!
Either that's a typo or they really went back to the roots for this model.
Maybe they had a warehouse full of old gas tanks and needed to clear them out?

Even the "newer" 90's model of king tank is 2.9 or 3 gallons while keeping the same shape and look.

8L might get you 150kms depending how much of a throttle jockey a person is. I guess that's far enough to make it to the next bar as they say.

I always thought a Buell XB12 with the V-Rod motor would be awesome. I always loved the look of the XB but didnt want an aircooled motor.

Isn't the whole thrust behind the "48" the fact that that was the first year HD used the peanut tank. Hence, using the peanut tank on the 48. Subtract the displacement of the in tank fuel pump.

    Thank you for waking me!!
I forgot about that damn pump too! That explains the 7.95 L as opposed to the previous 2.2 gallons, (10L?) so almost 2L of space used!!

Damn fuel injectin whore! Screw U!

The 48 uses that narrow tank to accommodate those pretty rear view mirrors mounted under the bars.

Looks good sitting in the Timmies parking lot. Not so much walking to the gas station.

I love the look but, it just doesn't function well enough to really enjoy it.

I'll keep my current Sporty with 3.3 gallon tank and fill up ever 200 kms or so. Works fine for now.

I betcha they're using US gallons.

    3.85 litres= US gal. x 2.2 = 8.47 litres - 7.95 L = .52 L for the pump

Visualize a litre bottle of oil, the pump would be 1/2 that size.

They should have always put the mirrors there, i think they copied me when i started the trend in 98'.
It's the only good way to see behind you and not look at your shoulders without putting truck mirrors on.
People always ask how i see, well, when you stick your arms straight out, you see under your arm...duh! Just like a cyclist in the tour de france!!

My tank is 4.2, it looks ok and makes it to the gas station just fine.

I'm happy to hear that! I thought the thing was gonna be a giant 10lb device in the gas tank lol.

    Agave,

I've heard reports of the mirrors hitting the tank at full lock. Obviously, you don't have a problem with this.

BTW, I think you need a little more chrome. Nice!!!!!!
