    SV Shock Swap

swapping the junk 1st gen SV stock shock with a gsxr shock. Instructions and help were taken and offered from http://forum.svrider.com/

    Remove rear plastics

Relieve pressure from shock. There were a few options. I chose to hang bike from the ceiling on the rear subframe with ratchet straps.

Loosen dogbones and remove the lower bolt. Remove old shock.

The gxsr shock is the black one on top (see the pretty reservoir?)

I tried to mount the new shock but this reservoir catches on the bracket that holds the battery in place

    Cut bracket off

    The shock now mounts

Although I did have to pry the lower shock legs so the holes align

Now the battery won't fit because the reservoir is in the way.

Purchase longer bolt from hardware store in order to hang the battery tray lower

Now the battery fits. (There's a little clearance between the battery and the reservoir)

    BONUS FEATURE

As I'm putting stuff back together, you can see this ghetto license mount I made. My old one broke off after little spill.

    Some leftover rattle can

    S'okay from afar

Nice! I'm gonna upgrade the rear shock on my 02 with a 636 shock come spring time!

Was it necessary to cut the tank bracket?

Ya, I'm pretty sure you need to cut it if your shock has a rez. Good luck!
