Here is an example, I had a bunch of billet 6061 and 7075 parts anodized black and red, and one part that I thought was billet was actually cast or forged..And it came out pinkish grey....

Most places will refuse to anodize anything that isnt true billet, because they cannot guarantee the color it will become

It doesn't matter. Polishing first is merely for aesthetics.
I'm also new at this. what are the benifits of anodizing over powdercoating?
It's a different look than powder coating. The main benefit is that you don't add much thickness like you do with powdercoating.

They are cast aluminum, so they will come out like the part I have posted...You ask for red youll get pink, black youll get gray, etc etc....The color will not turn out right
You dont have too, freshly machined aluminum will be clean and a little shiny...Polishing will make the color come out glossy instead of the usual mat finish...Its also a good way to clean parts that have been used already and have started to tarnish
