what's the best track for the buck?

Of the 4 tracks I know about in Ontario which gives you the best return on your money?

    Calabogie
    Cayuga
    Mosport
    Shannonville

Please state why that track is better for what you pay.

I think it depends on what you want to accomplish.

And what your riding level is.

If you're new, bogie and mosport are a bit advanced, mosport due to the speed and bogie as a result of the technical nature of the track.

Shannonville has the most to offer a new rider as there are several configurations, each offering its own challenges.

    What they said.

I'm new, so for me right now Cayuga offers the best bang for my buck. It's close to home, I always know people there, and I'm learning a lot on a track that isn't too intimidating.

As much as I want to go to Bogie or Mosport they're way too advanced for me right now so it'd be a waste of money.

Cayuga = cheap and cheerful for me

as a valley brat i'd have to say calabogie for me

hard question - best track - bogie, - cheapest track - shanny or cayuga.

it's like enjoying a glass of vintage wine or a glass of house wine. both will get ya happy, just depends on what you are comfotable spending your cashola on.

Shannonville Fabi 2.23 Km 9 corners 3 lefts rough asphalt
Long 4.03 Km 15 Corners 6 lefts rough
    Mosport 3.9Km 10 corners 3[real] lefts, rough, but fast,thrilling
Cayuga 3 Km 11 corners[?] [4] lefts smoother but narrow in spots
Calabogie 5.05 Km 20 corners 8 lefts very smooth, grippy, and the cleanest track in Canada
Just looking at the figures, Calabogie has 1 Km more track then the next, 5 more corners, and the best ratio of lefts to rights.
But Mosport is a different style track then all of them and has an appeal that is different then the other three.Very fast sweeping corners.

The problem with Cayuga and Shannonville they are 1 dimensional. You can see every entrance, apex and exit. If a riders stays on these tracks to long they become lazy and stop looking. You don't need to think as much. You stop looking for visual aids and turn in points. Mosport/Calabogie, have elevation changes which force you to look ahead. Ride a 1 dimensional track too long and you will have a very tough time progressing to a track like Calabogie or Mosport.
New riders should venture away from one dimensional tracks to progress all your skills. You will more then likely be quicker on your return to a flat track.

For the money, id rather pay to go to Calabogie for 2 days .. than to one day at mosport or shannonville or cayuga.

Calabogie is a great track and if it werent so expensive i would run that track every weekend.

    I love Calabogie *drool*

and while TMP might be the cheapest and closest, it's also my least favourite. I don't love it at all.

Personally, I'd rather spend the extra dollars and make a 2 or 3 day trip up to Bogie.

This season comming, I plan on doing all the SOAR rounds, a 2 day and a 3 day stay at bogie, and a 3 day stay at Grattan. Otherwise to that I MAY make a trip or two to Shannonville.

Again, nothing against Shannonville, but if I'm going to make the 3 hour drive from my home to Shanny, I'd just rather make it a 5 hour drive to Bogie.

i know its not in the poll but should be..tremblant is the best track...in between mosport and calabogie for speed and has on par pavement to bogie...and major elevations ...try it worth all 3,500 pennies/day..

    Agreed.

However, the organization that I go to Grattan with makes it my favourite trackday. I can't wait to be back this year, apparently they repaved the entire front strait along with turns 1,2 and 3. Next year will be the rest of the track, and the following year the paddock.

I still have nightmares about turn 3 at Grattan, the blind, off camber, and decreasing radius left hander. I nearly high sided there pretty hard last year.

Ohh I can't wait to be back!

Gratten and Indianapolis Motor Speedway are apparently the only two tracks still family owned. Everything else is corporate or club owned.
My favorite is when it is run counter clockwise.

Calabogie is incredible fun, but the poll was asking best band for the buck.
TMP has days on special for $90 + GST when you get a package.

Going to Calabogie costs about $220 + a lot more fuel to get there (about $150 more)

For where I'm located I can do 4 Cayuga days for the cost of a TMP day.

That's my feeling..plus you can learn a whole lot more about how to ride because the track is easier to learn and more straightforward. Mosport is great, but it's intimidating and you don't want to make a mistake there.
