What about when you still don't know where you are after an hour?

So how do you want to get out of that??
Try and hold the RPM's steady and point the bike, hoping it hooks up again? if you run off the outside at least you slide on the grass instead of high siding?
I started sliding out a bit in the rain last year, doing a 90 degree corner and chopped the throttle... my butt was about 6" off the seat but luckily I landed back on the seat.

Yes, your natural reaction is to chop the throttle but once the tire has slid out more than a few inches thats a bad thing to do.
Stay on the throttle and try to drive through the slide. Similarly to a RWD car, stay on the throttle and turn the front wheel into the slide and ride it out. Of course that doesn't always work, if your leaned over too far the rear can just come around on you and you'll end up lowsiding. That being said, i'll take a lowside over a highside anyday.

Good desciption I would say hit it some ,steady wont do it you need to keep the rear spinning/sliding till you are somewhat straight and upright ish
Its a hard thing to do and goes against your natural instinct but thats what has to be done. BTW I sure aint harpin on you just trying to help a little. Trust me gravity is no freind of my fat *****. Highsides are evil.
Boose said it perfect. you didnt chop the throttle cause you highsided. You highsided cause you chopped the throttle.
I have a leprechan that does it for me!
both.
i understand the theory and the physics behind it but havent had that many chances to implement the theory. it's hard to explain in text, but if we were both standing next to a bike and i could point at things and sit on the bike i could explain it pretty well. watching the motoGP guys on the 990's drift through corners is a good amplified example, watch what they do with their body and how they turn the front wheel into the corner and slide through it.
The Melandri / Philip Island slide or the McCoy ZXRR test slide are probably the best for understanding this.

your RPMs sound pretty low in the turns, unless its just the camera? that same turn you went down on, I usually to 6-7K in 2nd gear.
but apart from what, like the other said: another warm up lap or two wouldn't have hurt.

The funk. The jive. The boogie. The rock and roll.
I used to watch speedway every week as a kid. it's the 'extreme' of what you're describing.

I'm just glad you were ok.
