My 113,xxx kms SRAD gixxer 750 runs like new... and it's never seen an OEM filter since I got it at 23,000 into it's life. (no idea what the previous owner used).

Mostly EMGO filters were used.. some Hi-Flo - a few kimpex too.

Based on some older stuff floating around on the web, (the guy who cut open the filters and examined the construction) I've wanted to try an EMGO or Purolator, but don't know of any places in my area that sell them. It's either OEM, Fram, or K&N it seems.

Can the Purolator or EMGO be had in the GTA, or am i better off ordering in bulk off the net?

got my srad around 30k, it has had a whole slew of fliters.....from Kimpex, FRAM, Hi-FLO, etc etc.

it ran pretty good, it was a bit lean, but ran well.

I would change its oil ever 3500kms and filter every 7000kms

OEM for me, there is no money to be saved going aftermarket so I just stock OEM

Of all the things we buy for our bikes, oil filters must be the cheapest. OEM is a no brainer. Even for a Ducati, and even when I swap them every three or four track days.

I guess I will use the few Kimpex filters I bought and then get some HI Flo from Flying squirrel.

    Thx

    How do you figure?

Even through my sponsor Kawi filters still cost $11 for me OTD.

I can pick up Puro filters from Autozone in the US for $4 each. When I'm doing 8-10 oil changes a season it adds up.

I'm running HiFlo filter from Flying Squirrel.

Excellent filter at half the price of the overpriced K&N.

Re: Oil Filter - Brand or Generic?

On my zx10r I use the Purolator PureOne PL14610 filter.

I know that the internal bypass pressure relief setting differs slightly from Kawasaki OEM, and the housing is slightly longer than Kawasaki OEM (but it still fits in the bike ...) and Purolator therefore doesn't recommend it for motorcycles on the grounds that it "... doesn't meet OEM specs", but I'm comfortable that it is overall "out of spec" on the "good" side ...

It has a larger filter media area, so it ought to have less pressure drop and trap more stuff before that (supposedly out-of-spec) relief valve ever trips. I think it is a non-issue. If there is a filter that has better filtration on the SAE tests, I don't know of it.

60,000+ km on the bike, no issues.

On my fzr400's I use the Fram filter. It is a cartridge filter on that bike, and Fram can't use their typical cheap cardboard end caps - they have to use metal because that's the way the cartridge is designed. The Fram filter is indistinguishable from the OEM filter, and in any case, you can't get a PureOne filter for this application.

The cbr125 doesn't have an oil filter, just a screen. I installed a magnetic drain plug. I've yet to see any more than the tiniest specks on it, but I'd rather have those specks stuck to the magnetic drain plug than floating around inside the engine.

Here is why I am concerned. Just click on the left to review other filters

It appears that Emgo is a good filter for the money

EMGO FTW... cheap + good. - solved... (for suzuki's)

Purolator Pure one does not make a Suzuki Sportbike filter... - otherwise - that would be choice #1

I guess I get them for cheaper , and I was not considering purchasing from the US...If someone wants to save $5-6 they can supply their own filter, I only have OEM Kawi filters in stock. Thats what I use and thats what I recommend if someone brings in a Kawi

I have used aftermarket before, but after a few issues I will not use them anymore....One of my team mates had an aftermarket filter explode on him..And Ive had a few with bad threads, or were too long to fit an application.. they were supposed too...

Pannon was carrying them at one point, I don't know if he still does. Failing that, if you happen to be in the USA, you can get them at Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, etc.

Does anyone know if you can get decent oil filters through the usual big box stores (CT, Napa, Wal mart, etc.) in Toronto? I've always used oem yamaha, but the price keeps on going up and there aren't any bike shops convenient for me

I dont know about yamaha but u could plug in any filter that fits. Except for suzuki, their threads are different and require a specific thread size. Just stay away from Fram.

Try Royal Dist. they have cheap filters

For me, I will spend the $4 extra for a nice Honda filter.
