    help. flat tire. question

just got a flat.. on my car
i'm stuck in kingston on business
i'm running 18" low profile tires
i have my spare 15" on now

can i make it to toronto on my spare tire?!?!
    is it safe!?

i asked the pizza delivery guy who was in the elevator with me at my hotel...
he said the inside of the spare tire will wear and i won't make it to TO.

    true?

i was going to leave tomorrow at 5am to make it for a 9am meeting in toronto...

What size are your 18"s and what size is your spare(typically155-80)?

Is the car/truck 4WD or AWD?

As long as the spare tire has the same rolling diameter you should be ok.

Use a online calculator like this one http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Gotta find a calculator that does 115, that site begins at 155.

    115/70-15 3.2" 10.7" 21.3" 67.0" 945/mi 60MPH 10000mi N/A

    225/40-18 3.5" 12.5" 25.1" 78.8" 804/mi 60MPH 10000mi N/A

But based on a stock Mazda 3 which should be either 195/65/15 or 205/55/16

    195/65-15 5.0" 12.5" 25.0" 78.5" 807/mi 60MPH 10000mi N/A
    205/55-16 4.4" 12.4" 24.9" 78.2" 811/mi 60MPH 10000mi N/A

The spare doesn't have the same rev/per mile as the stock tire, so with that considered you should be fine. Put the spare on the rear

The T in your tire size is for Temp. It's not meant to drive 300km from Kingston to Toronto.

A flat tire shouldn't take a shop long to fix in the morning at any local shop

Possibl just a nail in it that can be plugged by either a shop or by you if you just by a plug kit at CT, or get it repaired/replaced before coming home
    You can't fix stupid

put the spare on the back if you can.. so that your drive wheels are running the same diameter.. .. stay off the hwy.. or try to keep the speed below 80 km/h.. you should be fine to make it back.. just take it easy..

A lot of gas stations have some bare minimum auto stuff for sale - can you find one still open this evening that has that stuff in a can that you spray into the flat tire to seal/inflate?
Better to regret something you have done than something you haven't.

Throw the spare on the rear (non drive wheel with less weight on it), make sure it has the right pressure in it, and take it easy; it will be fine. If you have ABS, it's possible that you'll get a warning lamp because of the difference in wheel speed, but it's a non-issue.

+1. If you decide to put the spare on, make sure it's on the back. Swap another tire around if you have to, but don't put it on the front. Also, you might wanna stay in the right-hand lane in case the donut explodes and you have to pull over.

Typically donuts are designed for a max speed of 80 kph and a distance of approx. 100 km. I would certainly not exceed the speed rating if trying to go that distance.
    Good luck

    Put the spare on....

take your wheel to a tire shop for a plug!

or go to crappy tire and buy some of that runflat goop stuff....you can make it back on that, but it will goop up the inner part of the rim
