I feel sorry for the guy.
I have caught a sprocket once or twice without the bike running and that can hurt like a *****.
Not everyone is mechanically inclined. Whats common sense for some in a painful lesson learned for others.
There is no reason for the engine to be running......its called give the rear wheel a couple of turns. In case you don't know, a band saw can take fingers off as well.
Just another reminder that 90% of the population wouldn't survive an afternoon in a machine shop.

RIP - 2006 Yamaha R6- 09/09/09
what the heck... it kinda baffles the mind that anyone would do such a thing...
Don't people figure that it seems like a dangerous thing to do?
Its a big piece of high powered machinery with moving parts. eeerr....
Do they not have shop class in high school or elementary anymore? I think it should be mandatory. It taught me how to respect machinery and the dangers of it. Oh yes... and to know what your doing or find out before you fiddle with it.

dude that's messed.... why did i just eat and click on that
WTF!?
Why would it ever be a good idea to clean a chain while the bikes on. What a moron. I guess he was watching too much jackass or something.
Next bike?
1999 Yamaha YZF R6 (SOLD - Owned it briefly, very nice bike.)
1990 Honda CBR600F1 (SOLD - Old bike, but good upgrade)
2000 Kawasaki ZZR250R (1 Seasons - SOLD - Great bike)
2007 Honda CBR125R (1 Week - SOLD - too slow, felt like a scooter)
This is exactly why I stopped cleanin my chain with my penis...
It's a good reason that we try to keep the flaming to a minimum here.
Isn't it better to ask (without fear of flaming) than to try something you aren't sure about on your own?
We were all new at one point.
Nasty pics!!

one valuable thing i learned working in a machine shop is that gloves and rags around running machines is a bad idea...either get your finger nicked by a blade or have your entire hand sucked in.
WOW that guy is a dumbass.
I mean, who the hell uses WD-40 to clean the chain anyway?
Yes but new =/= Stupid.
Certain things i know are a bad idea without having to ask.
LOLz
On the flip side, i bet he didnt look at the moving chain and say "Hey.. i'd have to be some sorta moron to put my hand in there"
Yes, accidents happen.. but the root cause of labels on chainsaws that read "do not stop blade with hands" is stupidity, not a lack of concentration or lack of foresight.
