Re: READ BEFORE POSTING: Which Insurance Company will give me the best rate???
Good effort. Can you also list bikes that are seriours performing as well as cruisers that perform good but are not surcharged?
Example, is the sv 1000, sv 650, roadstar midnight warrior and the bmw k1300r classified as sports oriented and thus surcharged? I like the k1300r alot.

This list posted on "OntarioMotorcycleInsurance.com" by Rob MacLennan might help you out. This list is a couple of years old though, and only applies to Jevco (although many companies follow their lead):

Any insurance for real casual rider?
Thanks a log VifferFun for all that great info! Your time on this forum is much appreciated!
Question: I have left my bike in the garage for the last 3 years because of insurance rates being too high for me.
I'm pretty much the ideal rider from a insurance company view (I think so at least), 39 years old - no accidents - no tickets - married - been riding for 13 years - full M and riders training.
Problem is... with kids taking my weekend time, I will only ride casually during the week... and when I say casually, I mean maybe 12 times per year during the last 3 years I was insured.
I live in Toronto and the bike is an old BMW K100RS... so the best I can find with multiple discounts on the bare minimum $1M liability is $635.
That means for me: $50 insurance every time I turn the key...
Is there any insurer that would insure on a per kilometer basis? or per day? The wife has been telling me to sell the bike... which is probably the logical answer, but I like riding it.

Unfortunately not. There are a lot of costs asociated with initiating and canceling a policy and the insurer would lose money if they were to simply insure you for twelve days of the year. This is the reason why most insurers have a minimum retained premium if you were to purchase your policy and then cancel early.
If it is extremely rare that you ride your bike, you might want to consider renting a bike a few times a year:

Looks like you're ALMOST SOL if you're a 20 year old rider even with a 250...

You best bet in this situation is to get your M1/M2 a year before you plan to ride, then go with Jevco.

I don't know of any link.
Minor Convictions stay on your MVR for 3 yrs. Most companies (with the exception of State Farm) don't surcharge for the first conviction, but surcharge by about 10% for each additional minor conviction.
Major Convictions stay on your MVR for 3 yrs. Most companies surcharge by about 25% to 50% for each major.
Criminal Convictions stay on your MVR for 3 yrs. Most companies surcharge by about 50% to 100% for each criminal conviction.
At-fault collisions stay on your record for six years (but the impact to your premium diminishes with each year that you remain claims free after the incident).
Not-at-fault collisions don't affect your premium whatsoever.

Wow, thank you for putting so much work into this! And for making it so simple. I love the link you added for beginner bikers too, was a great justification for me to give someone who's trying to get me on a 600CC Sportsbike as my first bike.

No problem :)

I'm not sure what you mean? All new business will be checked for previous insurance, claims, and convictions histories before being written by an insurance company.

If you want to get Jevco's "experienced" rate, you will have to wait until one full year has elapsed from the time that you got your M1/M2 for the second time. In other words, you would have to wait until the end of next season.

Hey Viffer,
This is definitely one of the easier way of getting people to understand bike insurance, very straightforward. Nice work.

Re: READ BEFORE POSTING: Which Insurance Company will give me the best rate???
I love you Viffer.
+1 for choosing the right company from the get go, phew.
Re: READ BEFORE POSTING: Which Insurance Company will give me the best rate???
Glad it's helped some people :)
Let me know if I need to make any updates. It sounds like State Farm might now require 6 years licensed, and someone from Aviva was trying to get added to the list (but I don't think I've got the particulars yet). If any brokers want to fill me in on some info that I didn't include in the tables, let me know.

Would Dual Sports and super moto's fall under the classic/cruiser flowchart or are they treated as a different risk category?

I don't have much experience with them, but you definitely shouldn't have to worry about the SS surcharge with them. Using the Classic/Cruiser table will probably give you the best result. When you have a Classic/Cruiser/Dual Sport bike, you have a lot more insurance company options than you do with a SS . . . most insurers who provide Auto insurance will also write these non-SS bikes.

Would a 1988 Honda Hawk GT ( NT650 ) be considered sport or non-sport?

Non-Sport.
Re: READ BEFORE POSTING: Which Insurance Company will give me the best rate???
Hey Viffer,
It seems like State Farm has taken themselves out from insuring people with 5 years of experience to insuring riders that has at least 6 years of experience (according to Seamus Kelly), can you please verify this for me?
If that's the case then I'm going to be screwed because I'd have to wait until next November
