Are different drunks from different liquors a myth?
What do you guys think? My friends & I were talking about it the other & I looked it up when I got home, but I'm getting mixed reviews. One camp says that alcohol is alcohol & has the same effects; the other camp says that the different ingredients, ways of brewing, etc. all play a part in how the alcohol affects you?
What do YOU guys think? How do Gin, Wine, Rum, Scotch, Whiskey, Rye, Tequila, Vodka, etc. affect you?
All I know is that I can't handle my tequila. lol
What do you guys think? As always, stories involving alcohol or anything alcohol-related are welcome

Drink (real) Absinthe and you will never ask this question again.

As long as you aren't fussy about what you mix your Aqua Velva with you are fine.

It's what happens the morning after that different booze affects. The darker the colour of booze the more "other things" in there that generally give you a lousy head. All booze gives you a hangover from dehydration but the "extras" like tannins from wood casks etc don't help either.

I tend to agree with you but I have one buddy who only becomes a prick if he drinks red wine (once I was ****'s hair close to kicking his ***). Otherwise he's pretty cool socially. Other ingredients might have different effects on the metabolism. Are there any reputable scientific studies on the topic?
Re: Are different drunks from different liquors a myth?
Alcohol is alcohol. As long as there are no other active ingredients it's all the same. But the type of beverage can affect how much and how quickly you consume it which might lead to behavioural differences once the effects kick in.

As a beer drinker, I know I get hammered a lot quicker when I go to jack and coke simply from consuming more drinking it like it's beer.
Throw in some shots, and I'm a mess.
If I generally keep with the same poison for the evening, I do just fine. But, as soon as I mix or switch it up, you might as well take my mug shot. I'm toast.
A glass of wine or two, no biggie. Any more, head ache city. Need to go with beer or something else.

Pure myth. What gets you drunk is the Ethanol compound, which is the same in all alcoholic beverages worldwide. The rest is the psychological bias of the drinker, not the drink itself.

Scotch messes me up. Rye/rum/beer/wine I can 'feel' kicking in. Scotch kicks me first ... hard.

It could be argued that sugary drinks and ones with caffine might affect metabolism. Heard somehting about a quicker buzz using Gatorade as mixer.
A number of years ago I got a taste of some rum specially imported by a big-wig stock broker. It was as smooth as silk and then the hammer dropped. Logical not, tasty yes.

I'm a happy drunk regardless of what I drink. My younger brother is the same BUT goes absolutely freakin' berserk on Soju. Go figure.
