FIRST MOTORCYCLE... what to get?
so finally im at a stage in my life where i can afford to ride a bike.
ive done some dirt riding in the past, but havent touched a bike in a long time...
all ive been looking at lately are 600cc+ sport bikes.
even looking at 1000 cc because i love the new ****ing r1's.
whats a friendly sport bike to start on?
Re: FIRST MOTORCYCLE... what to get?
there are no "friendly" sport bikes....
SS bikes or sport touring?
how old are you? (insurance will be one of the important factors)
not trying to be an @ss, but just want more info before giving you suggestions...

SS = SuperSport.
Get a quote on insurance before looking at any 600+CC bikes. That way, you wont be drooling over a bike and then finding out that the insurance cost just as much as the bike.

$10,000 +.. is quite easily possible on a black listed super sport especially since you might not qualify for state farm unless you have held you G for 5 years
Depends what your looking for and what kind of riding your doing. If you can afford a crap tone for insurance then get what you want.
If you have a Budget I would suggest looking at a sport touring like a Katana or VFR if you want a Super sport bike you can look at getting one over 20 years old as they wont be black listed anymore.
At 21 even a 250 might be 3000+ to insure.. but we need to no more about what you want to do with the bike. Not to mention in the end you are the only one that can really decide.
Read through the flow charts in the insurance section

Why don't you call an insurance company and get a quote?
I'm sure you'll get a more solid answer than here.
All you have to do is pick up the phone..

Re: FIRST MOTORCYCLE... what to get?
get a 599, it's a street fighter that can keep up with 600ss bike no problem, especially in the corners.
Re: FIRST MOTORCYCLE... what to get?
to OP, insurance will kill you... doesn't matter if you never had a ticket/no claim/no accident/no nothing.... that's not how the insurance companies calculate stuff... they use "The Law of large numbers" to determine the crash rate on the age range, the type of bikes, based on the number of accidents involved. 21 year old on a SS bike = super high risk.
You might want to start with a lower cc bike, unless you have $$$ to spend on insurance.

In all honesty your probably be looking between $3000-$5000/year for liability with a 600 SS.

This question comes up WAY too often, did you check the stickies in this section first? Did you do a search?
You're gonna get a lot of grief in this thread now. Laziness has it's cost.
