oops sorry slowbird lol
Ahh! Should I still look at replacing the stator and or R/R or just get a vfrness?

That was what I was looking for. I haven't been able to find a schematic. Thanks.
Re: Wierd problem with 5th gen VFR
so..need to know what to order
stator and vfrness or reg/rec and vfrness?
Re: Wierd problem with 5th gen VFR
Update: Re-soldered the connections and replaced a blown fuse, now I only get a click from under the seat when I hit the starter. New battery time?

Throw the battery on a trickle charger first and see if it's recoverable, once it's charged up try starting it.
Re: Wierd problem with 5th gen VFR
Battery is reading 17.6v sitting on my desk, swapped for one that reads 14.5v and the clicking noise is still there
Re: Wierd problem with 5th gen VFR
Whereabouts are you located? I've got something that might help you; a 1998-2000 VFR800 service manual.

PM'd
Re: Wierd problem with 5th gen VFR
Need someone to have a look at it...I am having absolutely 0 luck. Going to try to get a new battery tomorrow.
Re: Wierd problem with 5th gen VFR
Does anything turn on when the key is ON? Lights?
Have you attempted a Bump start? All fuses are ok?

Get the Reg/Rec and the harness.

The bike will start with the new battery. Keep a Voltmeter on the battery, when the Voltage gets over 15 Volts, turn off the engine. The Voltage may stay below 15 Volts at idle, take the engine to 4~5000 RPM.
Disconnect the R/R at the red/black connector. Start the engine. Note the battery Voltage.
Your R/R has burned out one or more of the SCRs and can no longer regulate the output.

Get the Reg/Rec and the harness.
All lights turn on signals work etc. Have not tried bump starting, and all fuses look ok.

Ah. So new battery R/R and vfrness? Anywhere more local then wiremybike that would have a vfrness?
I should also note that jump starting it did not work.
Edit: Just ordered VFRness, stator hardwire kit, and new R/R connectors (the one on my harness side was melted)
EditEdit: Swapped the battery with the one from my v45 sabre (same voltage readings, starts the sabre fine) and still only get the click.
Re: Wierd problem with 5th gen VFR
Changed the battery in my multimeter, it now reads 0.7-0.8 ohms on the 3 wires coming from the stator and 0 continuity on all 3. Battery also reads 12.5v now instead of the 17.5v it was reading before.
Re: Wierd problem with 5th gen VFR
your still just getting the click?

Have not hooked the R/R back up had to undo the soldering to do some testing:
-Battery reads 12.75v
-Leak tested, meter reads 0.8mA
-The harness side of the R/R connector positives read 12.75v (positive lead on the red/white and common lead on the frame)
-Continuity between the harness side of the R/R connector negatives and grounded on the frame
This at least shows me the stator is ok for now, and the harness is ok. New R/R time while I wait for my vfrness and other parts to arrive
Re: Wierd problem with 5th gen VFR
Installed the FH0122AA with VFR.CBR's help, and diagnosed a bad starter motor (has a dead spot) so now on the hunt for a new one!
Re: Wierd problem with 5th gen VFR
Bad started motor or starter clutch?

Starter motor, we would put bike into a high gear and rock the rear wheel back and forth until we felt the crank turn over then put it into neutral and try starting it. Sometimes it would work, sometimes would not.

...and when you would try starting it would it go: *clack clack clack* ?
Or just a single click?
A common starting issue is caused by the starter Clutch and not the motor itself.
