Yep. That's how to install studs.
Getting them installed in a pattern that works is a whole other game.
You don't need or want studs on snow. Studs are for ice.
Snow tires are for snow. Yes there are snow tires for motorcycles, for bicycles too.
Treleborgs, made in Sweden and NO they're not cheap.
The snow mobile clubs get really ****** if you ride on their trails.
When I was racing enduros and moto we used to ride year round. (Falling through the ice is NO fun. Have a car close with the heater on...just in case).
Re: dirt bikes in the winter?
if you want them to work and last it is.
I've seen LOTS of people try to make them, they usually last about 2-3 rides then the tire is junk.
I bought a set of purpose built ice race tires from a well known builder and they're still working well after 2.5 seasons.

$800-$1000 for tires and if you want to ride legit races you also need guards and lanyard kill switch, maybe another $300-$400.

Oh man, CR 500 + studded tires = the most fun you can have on ice!!!! Those CR 500's are very angry bikes to say the least LOL, nothing like riding a 2 stroke dirt bike that is in a genuine bad mood with sharp steel sticking out of the tires across glare ice in 5th gear tapped out, in powerband.........my best winter's were riding dirt bikes on ice

CR 500's can be a ***** to start sometimes, but when they light....look the **** out. Ive seen a few CR500's run down sleds and put a good scare into them with the right rider.
I went through a bunch of XR's which were pigs to start at 5c or less on a good day. When Yamaha came out the the YZ/WR 400/426/450 series they are a breeze to start with haveing an accelerator pump to shoot raw gas into the clyinder........although that was only after perfecting the elaborite starting procedure
Now you guys got me thinking of selling the sled..................
Re: dirt bikes in the winter?
Sleds r fun.....
For what 6 weeks now maybe.....
Not like back when.
Used 2 be mid Nov till late March and only cause the water on top of the ice was sooo deep.
;)
FYI : A friend of mine lives in H.landing.
:D
Re: dirt bikes in the winter?
just get a trials bike, you can do that year round for sure.
even have indoor spots...
you need so little splace you could shovel your driveway, drop some logs and rocks and you have a weekend of riding...
also bulletproof and run fine in winter
