noob question: sport vs cruiser

I ride a Rebel 250 but I see a lot of Ninja riders in this group. Is there a difference in power between a cruiser and a sport bike of the same cc? If I join a ride with a bunch of Ninjas will I be able to keep up? And are sport bike riders picky about who joins?

As a new rider, I'm not even sure if I'm ready for a group ride yet (just got my bike yesterday) but I'm also thinking that being in a group might provide some comfort... greater visibility... following instead of leading... etc...

Power. Yes there is a huge difference there your bike has 17 hp while most ninja 250s put out 28-40 depending on tuning. Your bike has alot more torque so you have better acceleration yet at the same time the ninjas can hit way higher speeds as in 170kmh-180kmh. Alot of it also has to do with aerodynamics because we have fairings to hide behind and the rebel doesn't.

As for rides im sure you could tag along i dont see why anyone would be offended. When i started riding i hated cruisers but not I have learned that they are pretty cool people too, just with a different riding style. Whats the Rebel get up to ? id say if you can hit 130 or so you'd be fine for a ride for the highway rides. I havent gone for a ride with any gta 250s yet to see what kinda speeds they hit.

Also as for joining group rides. find a noob friendly ride, if you only had your bike for a few days or weeks its best to practice more. there is a thread somewhere on these forums its called noob ride 1.0 or something! Read up on group rides and see signals and group riding stuff. heres a start for you.

    Have fun dude

@kgreen: This is a 250 group, so if you have a 250, you're entitled to join! sport or cruiser, doesn't matter. Also, some people in the group are first timers at riding as well, so don't worry! Ride at your own pace, we'll wait up if anything. It isn't a race or a talent show, so just be in your comfort zone.

@2motors: great input and great pic of basic hand signs!
