A friend of mine is looking into buying this bike. The owner is not budging on the price.
It has a hindle highmount and Ohlins steering damper.
Bike has been painted black (owner said he didn't like the old color).
It has 13,000 kms.
Bike is currently at Vaughn Cycles (he is selling it for a friend)
Owner is NOT going to safety it or get the UVIP.

Painting may indicate an attempt to cover up damage. Also, it's the sellers responsibility to get the UVIP.

"The private seller of a used motor vehicle is required to purchase a Used Vehicle Information Package. For most transfers of vehicles between private sellers, a UVIP is mandatory. Unless the types of vehicle and transfer situations are exempt, the seller is required to supply the purchaser with this package at the time of sale." from http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/faq/vehicle.htm#used5

Don't buy anything if the seller is not willing to get the UVIP, its very important to see whats on there prior to purchasing. Can't stress that enough...
I'm sure there is a ton of info on this site about buying used bikes...
Read this.

Nobody re-paints a perfectly good bike.

The price is way to high anyway.

That price is rediculous. It's probably been down, like another poster said no one really repaints a bike for the hell of it. If he won't budge, just walk away. He call you back in a few weeks cause he'll never sell that thing. Something about Hondas makes people think they are worth more than they actually are.

Price is too high, I I were to sell my 04 zx6r w/ 20K lots of upgrades and a few scuffs here and there I'd be happy wtih $6500 and I'd sell with safety and UVIP

note: I am NOT selling, I'm just doing a comparison

Ditto. You can buy a much better bike for less.

As was said before. Nobody paints a perfectly good bike. Walk away from this bike.

Actually some people do paint their sport bikes shiny black to avoid alot of riding profile hassles. That said, let's face it, the CBR series bikes have an incredible resale value, probably the best resale value of all the 600 class bikes today. The bigger point is that the 2001-2004 split seat F4i holds it value better than so many other bikes. Super reliable CBR (Clearly Best Resale.) Don't forget, parts availability is probably super everywhere. There ya go.

A quick search on autotrader.ca yields 2 results:

2001 HONDA CBR 600 F4I
Mint Cond. Blk/Slv Brand new back tire.. New Hindle exhaust Asking 6000 never dropped. Call Darren @519-362-9789. Very fast bike to drive and fun. 32,000 km. $6,000
2002 HONDA CBR600F4I
Original engine, tranny, clutch. Exc. cond. in storage past 2 years. Some minor cosmetic damage, easy to certify. Priced to sell fast. 45,000 km. $4500.

Craigslist provides these:

http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/mcy/604304043.html

No relation, blah, blah, blah.

Make your own judgement, but I'd guess in the $5500 range might be what you should pay for the bike your looking at...

I would not touch a repainted bike, unless you know the owner and have seen why and what was painted. Regarding the price, yes it is high, however, I've bought a few used bikes in the past and the key really is how the bike was maintained. You could be looking at a 2006, low kms dead bike, or an excellent 1999 bike. If at least the bike was not repained, I would recommend getting a mechanic to check out the bike before buying it.
Good luck.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone for a starters bike, but I actually feel more comfortable on it than my old bike. I'm pretty tame rider on the streets. Seen too many friends in bad accidents doing stupid things or riding excessively fast. Leave it for the track.

Just walk away. The market is going to be flooded with bikes in the next month or so. I can understand if the owner will not cert it, but no UVIP....

The bike is nice and +1 to Vonn Cycles. That is where I bought my R6. Price does seem to be a bit high however for a 2001. Vonn Cycle are good guys though so maybe check out their other bikes because $6500 as is, is too much for that old of a bike.

Waaaay to much.

As for the paint, I'm going to paint my TL because its starting to show some wear and tear but it hasn't been down. Lots of people are customizing there bikes so they are unique.
Look for damage on rims, etc..... I'm sure if its been down something will still be scratched up.

I bought one of these at about that price ($6800 to be exact), in mint condition (way less kms, original paint) with similar options... in 2003.

I kinda like the paint job ....
I bought my bike for a lil less than that after negotiating ..- '02 - just under 15 k @ the time - stock except for a larger screen ..

For a 2001 at $6500, I think the seller is forgetting that things will still deppreciate despite how many KM's it has on it.

The fact that it's repainted is a big deal too. Whether there's damage under it or not, not having the original paint should deppreciate the value as well.

It's maditory for the seller to give a UVIP.

But it doesn't really matter.
If you go to the ministry with the vin number, you can optain one with out the actual ownership in hand.

You should never buy a used bike, privately, with out a UVIP.
